Windows 10 for vmware workstation

 

I was wondering, if I’d need to buy 1 or 2 licenses for Windows 10 in this case? I hope to keep the Host OS as clean as possible, so no internet use etc. I already checked the Licensing matrix from MS, but couldn’t really find a proper answer.

You are installing 10 twice, on a self built machine, so you will need 2 full retail licenses. You could save a little money by buying a machine with 10 Pro OEM installed on it. Then you could just wipe that and install as you stated above. That would require only one full retail copy of 10 Pro. Of course, that means not self building the machine.

So you can buy OEM as long as you are building a machine that you plan to sell. If you plan to keep it you need Retail. You can, of course, ignore those rules. If you are using VMware workstation Pro 16 like me, you will get this option that says to choose the Virtual machine Hardware compatibility. Since I am using version 16, I would choose Workstation In the Guest operating system choose Microsoft windows and the version is windows Name the virtual machine name, and location where you wanted to install the new operating system, you may click on Browse if you would like to change the location.
