Upsampling in the software can be turned off. I usually convert my tidal live streams to DSD with it. Sounds amazing! So far I guess that I am in the minority and do not use it except to search for new music.

Thanks for the idea! I would also love if I could do parametric EQ. It can cause a lesser time of autonomous work and reduce the response of other non-player applications. Inline real-time vs offline conversion of audio files on mobile devices. Offline conversion of audio files gives a longer battery lifetime. Because a mobile device performs a lesser calculation number. Processing time may impact to sound quality.

So real-time conversion may have lack of computing resources to implement more accurate algorithm. Also, “heavy” algorithms extensively consume battery energy. If sound quality difference between inline and offline conversion is there, you can play pre-convenverted files back. Pre-conversion allows to save battery energy. If mobile phone is not capable multichannel playback in earphones, it can downmix it to stereo in real-time.

But, multichannel files waste the phone memory for all channels instead 2 channels that are actually need to physical listening. Such files may be pre-downmixed to stereo offline.

The stream cannot be played back as PCM. If the player has bit-perfect mode and used DAC support played file resolution, sound quality is the same for such players. But, if an audio resolution is altered or EQ is used, then applied processing quality is a matter. It may be suggested as SACD optical disks or computer files. It is a matter of recording quality and playback tool implementation. But implementation of the system makes actual result.

Many audio formats intersect by features and can replace each another. Read more which format is the best.. Read more Best audio player for Mac is individual choice. Here you can read general recommendations The end goal is to make MQA a standard and them as gatekeeper to the revenue stream. They have a history in this, remember the MLP?

Because MQA discards throws away information that can not be retrieved. You really should seek information outside of marketing. All statements from me have never been refuted by MQA trust me they are very aware of this info that is out there.

One should think that if this information was not correct they would show that the information was wrong. After all it is a hinderance to their business. You did notice that he said they only implemented it because they had customers ask for it. Which means that they can not legally tell anyone about what they know about it.

So Paul saying that he does like the sound of it is really strong words. When You listen be aware that a lot of the MQA encoded albums are slightly louder than straight FLAC louder is perceived as better sounding to most listeners. I for one hope for the loudness war to end. Currently most albums are between 3 and 7.

I do and look at the success of that platform, several consumer electronics manufacturers have stopped producing Bluray players, the latest I know of is Samsung. I also have problems with it.

PCM was also burdened with patents and licensing that have expired or expiring. Manufacturers had no problem paying the licensing to respective patent holders. In that respect MQA is nothing new. What is new is that MQA imposes licensing cost on the whole music delivery chain. I doubt that the music industry is willing to swallow the cost of MQA without the ability to pass on the cost to the end consumer.

This is the only place the upsampling is mentioned. This is what my DacMagic does normally with all content. Also in their MQA own words This step in the decode process will be different for every product, in order to make the resulting analogue conform closely to the hierarchical target and to most accurately replicate what was approved in the studio.

This is to be expected, especially looking at the file size which is closer to redbook. This discussion got me interested, so I experimented a little bit.

I downloaded some files for 2L. All those files originate from the same DXD master recorded using Merging equipment. I totally believe that, but there is a fold difference in bandwidth compared to DSD64, and more than 10 fold when compared to DSD In the age of AutoTune, the question is does HiRes even matter. Does it really matter to pursue higher quality just to better hear performers computer generated voices? Sure, maybe for live performances, classical and jazz.

For the rest, the redbook is probably plenty enough. Just like Audirvana. Not really, I oppose due to the fact that almost each and every usp they presented originally has been debunked. Well each and every manufacturer from recording to playback had to pay fees. Well if You by this, mean the WAV file. If MQA have got such a fantastic product, they should play with open cards. Let us hear the differences. Instead of going to audio shows banging on tables.

If it was just upsampling, the file would be the size of the FLAC plus few bits of instructions. Sorry, first they upsample or should that be unfold then they add random noise and run it through shallow digital filters.

The upsampling comes into play in the last phase of the unfolding in the renderer where together with filtering can be used to achieve the desired result which is correction for DAC artefacts.

This is the theory at least. Whether this produces better sonic results, you can be skeptical of that. Here is what Metrum not MQA writes:.
